Remember the old style skylight windows? They were great for letting in light, but when the sun was out, they were a real problem in damaging clothes and furniture, bleaching and fading any fabric they came into contact with.
If you're considering an Ultrasky roof lantern, you're obviously keen to flood your room with natural light, but you may need an assurance that this sunlight won't damage your furniture and floors.
Glass technology has improved greatly over the last few years. Ultrasky are at the cutting edge of this technology, so you can be sure that your expensive furniture will be safe from the sun's rays.
What causes sun damage to furniture?
There are 3 main causes of sun damage to furniture. The main culprit is UV light. Both UVA and UVB cause 45% of the damage, heat/infrared causes 25% and visible light causes 25%.
The old-style glazing offered no protection (in some cases, even magnifying the damage!). Ultrasky glazing panels are fantastic at dealing with UV light. Their most basic unit offers 78% protection. Choose Aqua Glass, and you'll benefit from an amazing 92% protection. Similarly, solar rejection is as high as 72% in some of our units - this is the number to look for in dealing with infrared and visible light.
Ultrasky roof lanterns are great at flooding natural light into your home and great at preventing heat loss, but they are also working hard blocking those damaging rays from your furniture and floor surfaces. There is a 10 year guarantee on all Ultrasky products. For more information about the insulative qualities of Ultrasky roof lanterns, visit our Roof Lantern Glazing webpage.
